My Story

From No Roadmap to Raising Kings

I grew up in a single-parent household -- raised by a mother who worked tirelessly to give her two sons every opportunity. I know what it means to navigate the world without a roadmap, to figure out your identity in spaces that weren't built for you.

I became the first in my family to earn a college degree, served as Student Body President at George Mason University, and was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. -- the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity founded by and for Black men.

I went on to found Boys N Action -- a mentorship program that has impacted over 1,000 young boys of color over the past decade. That's me and my son at George Mason University -- the same place where I found my voice. I wrote Nurturing Boys of Color so that every parent raising a son like mine has the tools I had to find the hard way.

This academy finally speaks directly to what I face raising my son as a Black mother in America. Nothing else comes close.
